Loughborough High School New Science Classrooms

Loughborough High School is an independent school for girls aged 11-18. Founded in 1850, it is one of the oldest if not the oldest Grammar school for girls.  As part of their continued improvement and updating of their facilities the school needed to update, expand and modernise the science classrooms at the high school.

This school project was to install and supply school laboratory furniture for six laboratory classrooms and additional preparation room areas for Loughborough High School, the client had requested that Lab 20 solid surface worktops were used to provide a near seamless work surface and it was also required that it matched existing classroom facilities elsewhere within the school.

For maximum flexibility the main classrooms were centred around service PODS which provided electrical, data and gas services to fixed locations with movable tables then positioned around the PODS.

The POD system is a great way to engage pupils and establish team building.  With PODS the pupils are broken up into smaller groups, this encourages everyone in the group to take part. A more fluid teaching approach is given by the teacher as the POD system allows and encourages them to move around the classroom working in smaller groups or on a more individual basis.

Fixed benching and service areas for sinks and additional storage were provided as perimeter benching in the rooms, this also helps keep the cost down of running drainage within the room. A mixture of tray units and cupboards were installed around the perimeter which also support the lab20 worktops.

The Lab 200 solid surface worktops are designed to be incredibly durable and long-lasting. These will form the foundation for generations of students at Loughborough High School – providing the highest standard of education for the girls of Loughborough for many years to come.
